: Using the First Light: Living the Questions DVD series, class will study about the historical Jesus and the Kingdom of God with two of the world's leading Jesus scholars (John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg) on location throughout the Galilee and Jerusalem.
Questions raised: Why did Jesus happen when he happened? Why the confluence of the Baptism movement of John and the Kingdom movement of Jesus? Why the tiny villages around the Lake? Why the confrontations in Jerusalem? Why then? Why there?
Why were the titles of Caesar Augustus -- Divine, Son of God, God from God, Lord, Redeemer, Liberator, and Savior of the World -- taken from a
Roman emperor on the Palatine hill and given to a Jewish peasant on the Palestine plain? Was it low lampoon or high treason? Either way, the Romans were not laughing.

3. God’s Great Cleanup
4. Collaborative Eschaton

The theme for this year's Thursday Night God’s Kids and JDs is "Connecting with Our Best Selves." Lessons and activities will encourage our children to employ courtesies, demonstrate manners, use common sense, and show respect when relating to others as a form of spiritual discipline. They will have opportunities to learn how their actions and unique abilities greatly affect the church’s mission to proclaim the Gospel of Christ locally and throughout the globe.
We will also be offering plenty of fun and fellowship activities to Connect Grow & Serve. God’s Kids and JDs will begin their session together, then divide into separate groups for additional discussion and age appropriate activities.
Spend quality time with your family as well as be with others on the 2nd Thursday of every month and have fun through study, games and service. Those celebrating their birthdays in the current month receive a complimentary meal on this night. Please contact Deena Barwick for more information. The Ministry of Music at The First Baptist Church of Redlands inspires
worshipers with music from the classics to the contemporary. In
addition to congregational singing in all our worship services,
we have several choral choirs that provide for personal
growth and satisfaction while giving people the opportunity to
use their talents, develop their skills, and share their joy.
The Chancel Choir provides leadership in our weekly 11:00 a.m. worship service. This choir, which comprises youth and adults, rehearses on Thursday nights after the Fellowship Dinner. Please contact Richard Steffen for more information.
This ensemble leads the music in our 8:30 a.m Worship Service. Weekly practices are on Mondays in the Sanctuary.
Please contact Eric Stoddard for more information.
We invite musicians of all types to share their talents in informal fellowship settings and in special music and accompaniment for our worship services. Please contact Richard Steffen or Eric Stoddard for more information. |

We believe God equips men and women to work as equal partners in the
church. All leadership opportunities are therefore open to both men and
women of faith. Our members and friends are encouraged to explore different
opportunities for mission and ministry and to discover those areas where
they can serve most effectively and joyfully.
The First Baptist Church of Redlands has seven commissions elected by
the congregation to provide leadership in different areas of our church
ministry. The commission system enables our church members to be personally
involved in the ongoing ministry of the church and to develop special
skills and expertise in vital areas of service.
