You are invited to join us along with other local churches (First Congregational, First Lutheran, First Methodist, First Presbyterian, Community Presbyterian, and Redlands United Church of Christ) at this unique worship service to honor the religious heritage of the University of Redlands and celebrate our church’s legacy in starting the University. Rev. Jasper Newton Field, sixth pastor of the First Baptist Church of Redlands was commissioned on December 19, 1907 to start the University of Redlands. With the congregation’s support, Dr. Fields was granted a year’s leave in 1908, with the exception of one Sunday a month, to raise more than $200,000 (more than $4 million in today’s money using the Consumer Price Index), oversee construction, woo a distinguished list of staff and faculty to come to Redlands, and recruit students. Dr. Fields accomplished what seemed an impossible task when the University opened on September 29, 1909. The special guest preacher is Rev. Mary Armacost Hulst. The daughter of the late President and Mrs. Armacost, Rev. Hulst is currently Vice President of ABCUSA. She is nominated to become President at the Biennial this June. Music will be provided by the choirs of the churches, singers from the university, and members of the community. Everyone is invited to join us for this very special service of worship and celebration! Children's Programming Available
